Exploits!

Exploitation is a neutral word. It can carry positive and negative meaning. Depending on the intent and what are the outcomes we are hoping for, we can always exploits things within and around us. Yes, material things must be exploit to the utmost in order to satisfy our needs. We, certainly, have many shades of needs. Some may be to insignificant to others, while some may be looked upon as something which is a must, and there is no two way about it. We should exploit things in order to bring benefits to others.

Exploitation is being creative and being bold in trying!

Things that we do not know...

I know what I do not know. Yes. I view this as an important marker of maturity. A measure of one can evaluate life and its surrounding is to be aware and conscious of one's weaknesses. Being aware of what we know is also important. But, the reverse is also true so that we do not overestimate on the things that we think we can do or deliver.

Well, are you aware of things that you do not know?

Go and find out!

Whatsapp mate?

The advent of new social media platform such as Whatsapp, Telegram etc has opened up different for people to communicate and share information. Rightly or wrongly, information are being share at a rapid pace that one may not want to spend sufficient time to properly evaluate the validity and soundness of the information or news. There is an unannounced competition on who can update the fastest on certain hot issue. This race in sharing and informing others is quite noble in that it pushes new information to the masses at a breathtaking rate. The drawback is that some, if not all of the information shared are just speculations and guess-work. One has no need to verify and confirmed the validity of the information before it is spread and shared on so many social media platform.

This is really unhealthy. How can we tolerate spreading speculations which can hurt a lot of people in so many ways. The onus is on the each individual who was given a piece of information. By right, the "news" should be share unless it is confirmed to be the truth. But then, the whole purpose of digital communication platform such as Whatsapp and Telegram is to mirror typical human communication. When we are talking among friends, we always speculate on things, and this habit is an interesting habit. It adds colour to a typically boring and dull discussions. The act of translating all spoken words into some form of coded text has now changed the behaviour and its implications.

What being said and what being written have now fused into one muddle of communication platform. This is weird, and we must learn to manage it the soonest.

About stock assessment!

Yesterday I've attended a meeting with a government-related research agency. Basically, they have been given a significant amount of funding to conduct an assessment based or study on the effectiveness of some previously implemented strategy to solve the problem of dwindling marine resources. The federal and state governments have spent millions into executing the proposed solutions to the problem. Now, the grant or funding providers have started to question the effectiveness of the previous projects. What are the outcomes? Have they truly fulfilled their intended purposes? Now, this why the research agency has invited me for the meeting. They are trying to figure out how to answer the effectiveness of the stock abundance improvement that have costed millions.

I am here trying to understand and propose some forms of potential approaches to them. It is not easy since even the research problems were not properly and clearly formulated. They got the money and now has to show some results. How effective was the previous investments? What are the ROIs? All these are difficult questions to answer. I wish they had written just a simple and clear cut proposal, and they would not be in this mess, today.

The point is to make the research problems or questions clearer. And with this, maybe just maybe, we can try to figure out how to measure the effectiveness or the impact of the previous projects.

May God help us all!

Sharing and giving...

I think its time to get rid of selfishness. I have some things which I think will benefit some other people, but I'm a bit reluctant to let go. Probably worrying that I will lose my innovative advantage. And, this will lead to losing one's position or status quo. This is an unfounded skepticism. This is an assumption towards the behavior of others which is based on thin air. People will always appreciate non-solicited assistance from a supposedly more established sources. We value sacrifices and unselfish act of kindness. Yes, why not share and help others. In truth, we are helping to improve ourselves. By giving, we will be granted more, insyALlah. In giving lies the meaning of real living.

Yes, why not we share more and encourage more collaborations and co-operations. This is the way forward, and we need to be focus on this.

Emotional Wall....

I think we should be more sensitive to the feelings of others. The whole point of communication is to relay information from one to the other. One major obstacle in communication is the creation of barriers such as ill-feeling and hatred to the other parties. When emotion is in the way, no mode of communication will be able to go over. Once emotions shut down, the other senses will follow through. No amount of emphasis can break this barrier, unless a conscious effort is adopted to address this emotional discrepancies. We must be the one who initiates making amendments. Admit our mistakes and move forward!

Wow..and you think you're an expert?

The environment is replete with people who think that they know better about certain matters, even better than the experts. I'm referring to layman who has this view that he should be given the freedom to give opinions and views on matters that is not his area of expertise. Well, a layman is a layman. How or why on earth did a layman think that he/she has this right? From medical issue to sensitive religious edicts, we can find a person on the street giving their precious take on the matter. For me, it is ridiculous for anybody to say anything on things that out of their understanding. Layman should stick to what they know, and not try to give opinions based on guessing or false assumptions.

If you are interested to be consulted on matters, be an expert. Go and study! Don't watch TV and eat too much pop-corns until one doesn't even know the difference between knowledgeable and ignorant. And, be responsible!

Dedicated to the anti-hadith movement out there!

Trait of a leader...

Leadership has always been a tricky topic to be discussed especially among the aspiring and closet leaders, i.e. unknown leaders. I personally think it is about the power of influence. How much power of influence and affecting the position of the audience or followers, would be very crucial in determining the success of one's leadership rein. How much influence does one has? This is the crux of the matter. All the details about skill of management, oratory abilities, financial acuteness etc. are secondary things. The most important trait of a leader, for me, is the ability to influence and in a way forcing others to do things that would not have been even considered in a normal situation. And, to make things worst, the followers are doing it for free and willingly, just to ensure the leader is happy. So, to be a leader, please rate your level of influence and capability in influencing others. If none exists, then you have no case. That is it!

Life is a pitch esp. when battling giants.

Recently I read two good books. One is about "Life is a PITCH". The author is claiming that all the interaction that we do in life is basically us pitching something to others. We are selling and trying to win them over. Our act of pitching is so critical that the outcome will directly our state of being. We subconsciously give values to the way others are pitching. We will either buy in into their arguments or points or will politely or rudely resist them. The pitching is an art well worth learning and practicing. We would not know when it will become handy. Yes, true - Life is a PITCH!

The second book was by Malcolm Gladwell on "David and Goliath" - the art of battling giants. The book was very interesting in that it gives values and meaning to all the weak and downtrodden. Those who are not endowed with talents, strengths, intelligence and other well-praised traits are not meant to always be on the losing side. They can, in fact, thrive on the obvious weakness and limits. The only thing that matters is the desire to capitalize on the available tools and implements the best strategy fitting to it. We do not play by the book, and we do not intend to subdue to others on the pretext of them having, obviously, better advantages. We are going to battle the giants.

Two very interesting and enlightening books. Why not have a read?
