The advent of new social media platform such as Whatsapp, Telegram etc has opened up different for people to communicate and share information. Rightly or wrongly, information are being share at a rapid pace that one may not want to spend sufficient time to properly evaluate the validity and soundness of the information or news. There is an unannounced competition on who can update the fastest on certain hot issue. This race in sharing and informing others is quite noble in that it pushes new information to the masses at a breathtaking rate. The drawback is that some, if not all of the information shared are just speculations and guess-work. One has no need to verify and confirmed the validity of the information before it is spread and shared on so many social media platform.
This is really unhealthy. How can we tolerate spreading speculations which can hurt a lot of people in so many ways. The onus is on the each individual who was given a piece of information. By right, the "news" should be share unless it is confirmed to be the truth. But then, the whole purpose of digital communication platform such as Whatsapp and Telegram is to mirror typical human communication. When we are talking among friends, we always speculate on things, and this habit is an interesting habit. It adds colour to a typically boring and dull discussions. The act of translating all spoken words into some form of coded text has now changed the behaviour and its implications.
What being said and what being written have now fused into one muddle of communication platform. This is weird, and we must learn to manage it the soonest.
